Artist's Biographical Information
Nancee Jean McClure earned both a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Art Education and taught middle school art briefly before accepting a position as an educational consultant with the Illinois State Gifted Program. In addition to travel and public speaking, this job involved writing and illustrating educational material. This exposure led to a job offer from an educational publisher. For the next several years, Nancee Jean wrote and illustrated several art and crafts books for children and worked as art director of a busy publishing company.
Eventually, however, the strong desire to step away from a consuming, deadline-driven career demanded a change. Nancee left the publishing company, moved to Colorado, and started her own development house, providing creative and prepress services to publishers. Although this job also had demands, it allows time to paint.
Always an active outdoor enthusiast, it was only natural that the subject matter that appeals to her was the natural beauty of her surroundings. The unsurpassed beauty of Western Colorado provides unlimited opportunities to paint powerful landscapes and awe-inspiring wildlife. Painting animals of any kind appeals to Nancee Jean. Her paintings of cats have all been award winners, including special cash awards and a Best In Show. She has had the opportunity to study with Terry Ludwig and Lorenzo Chavez. She is currently illustrating a children's book on alligators, written by award-winning author Jon Archembault, that will be published January, 2006.
Nancee Jean McClure's paintings are featured by The Ouray Gallery in Ouray, Colorado.
Artist's Statement
After illustrating for many years on a deadline, and according to "spec," I began to paint for the love of it. Painting in either pastel or acrylic allowed me to use many interesting layers of color, and the freedom to paint what I find beautiful has energized me as an artist.
Each painting allows me to have a relationship with something that fully captures my interest. The serenity, tranquility, and peace found in nature appeal to me greatly. It is my hope to communicate this loveliness through my paintings.
