I am a self taught artist, and I use whatever medium is available, Crayons, Pencils, Ceramic Tile, Stone, and computers, are to name a few.
I Enjoy working mostly with Stone, I love the way the creator (God) designed the stones, the natural veining of the rock, the fact that
no 2 pieces are exactly alike.
I love taking the stone, and trying to make it express my ideas, by placing the veins where they look like wood grain running through a branch, or the veins in a leaf,
or on a flower. It helps me to feel the picture come to life.
It is really something to step back and look at a piece once it’s completed, and to say "Wow, I cut that by hand, and the Lord designed the material”.
I went to Art school in Denver at the ripe old age of 17 for almost 2 years (Advertising Art, Commercial Design) but found out really quick that it just was not my cup of tea, I have no problem expressing my
own ideas, but trying to express someone else’s....wow, it was if I had Strings attached to my hands, I was limited to what they saw or wanted, and my creativity disappeared.
I truly enjoy doing what I do now, and I think that makes all the difference in the world, if you enjoy what you do, it is Art. If it’s just something that you do, then it’s not. I have seen guys work with concrete, making floors look like stone, dying it to look like rocks, stamping it, they enjoy working with their hands, I have also seen guys pour concrete, and walk away from it, with it only looking like concrete, they have no desire for it, and it shows. I hope that when someone sees my work, they say “Wow, this person truly enjoys doing this.”……”& I am willing to pay thousands for it” (Ha-ha).
