Jim Brock
Jim is a long-time resident of western Colorado who enjoys the varied scenery from its
carved red rock architecture to its ever changing mesas and mountains.
Jim received his formal art training at the University of Illinois where he studied
architecture and received design awards for student competitions.
Drawing and painting have always been a part of Jim’s life. He spent several years in
the "black and white" world of ink and pencil art, and in the process, won the juried
competition for the pictorial postal cancellation celebrating the 80th anniversary of the
Colorado National Monument.
Jim now participates in shows and has been giving demonstrations of his watercolor
technique. In July 2004, he was the featured artist at the AGO Gallery for the first
Ouray, Colorado Art Walk. He is planning workshops on Watercolor Meditation in
plein air with the AGO Gallery for next summer. Some of Jim's work currently in the
AGO Gallery can be seen at www.agogallery.com
Jim's work has been accepted into the juried Fine Art Auction for the beneit of the
Western Colorado Center for the Arts in Grand Junction. This event was held in
February, 2005.
Most of Jim’s work has been accomplished for its meditative possibilities. His work is
reflective of his continuing interest in contemplative art and philosophy, as expressed
in his images of the landscape of which he is a part. His work explores nature’s
dualities, its change and often serendipitous quality, as well as its inherent spiritual
mystery.
