Biographical Statement:
Art is a form of communication that makes available creative interpretation and interaction. A painting creates space and gives the viewer choices where they may participate. The laughter, or the sigh, or the subtle relaxation in the faces, or even the disbelief, displeasure, or puzzlement, show me that a complete conversation is taking place with the picture and the viewer.
I paint in all media. The brush or pastel describe plein aire, or animal, abstraction, and human figure. I am a painter of allegories, of stories, of mind and soul portraits. I am a lyrical imagist, working with rhythm, accent and harmony and unity: making music with color. There is always a story hidden in the paint—a myth, a folk tale—or a love story. I may work with abstract forms, expression, and the impressions of mood and light to tell these stories. Each piece has its own personality, its own medium and requests its own method of emergence.
Exploring the Western Slope after retirement from 25 years of teaching children and adults art plus many other areas, is titled career change. I have degrees in art and art education and work in my studio in Cedaredge, CO. I am also partner of the Cedars Edge Gallery in the Apple Shed in Cedaredge, CO. where I teach, display. sell and manage the business of the gallery.
